In many sports the uniform simply serves as a means of distinguishing the competing squads, but in hockey, virtually every piece of equipment serves a unique purpose. It is fairly simple to ascertain the importance of the helmet, gloves, skates and stick, but players don a variety of other protective equipment underneath and within their uniform. Not only do hockey players wear should pads and shin protectors, but there is also additional padding in their pants.
Hockey pants typically feature an outer shell to provide the player with extra protection. In addition to the outer shell, there are also plastic inserts that are housed inside of the pants. One of the key features of quality hockey pants is that they provide adequate protection with sacrificing a players speed, comfort or mobility.
